Transport Fellowship: Jim Fitzpatrick MP
Jim Fitzpatrick the Member of Parliament for Poplar and Limehouse began his Fellowship at the end of 2012 in transport and logistics. His learning objectives include gaining a deeper insight into the future of logistics, aviation and shipping in the UK in terms of capacity building, projected activities, new technologies and sustainability. Jim is half way through his Fellowship and has undertaken attachments with Associated British Ports (ABP), Birmingham Airport, Rolls-Royce, Shell, Thales and TNT Post so far.
“The chance to visit some great businesses, meet their leaders and staff and find out more about their operations has been priceless. As an MP or as a Minister, one seldom has the opportunity to understand in real detail what makes a business tick. Meeting decision makers from the boardrooms of some very successful companies and listening to staff actually making the product or delivering the services to the customer is invaluable. The Industry and Parliament Trust Fellowship has provided me with the chance to learn so much and I am very grateful to them and the individuals and organisations who have hosted me for their generosity”.

The Company View
“Some 95% of the UK's trade in goods moves by sea and ports play a crucial role in supporting jobs and driving economic growth. ABP, which handles around one quarter of the nation's seaborne trade, is proud to support the invaluable work of the IPT and to help promote better understanding of the UK ports sector. Playing our part in Jim's Fellowship has been a great privilege and we look forward to welcoming other parliamentarians in future".

“We were very pleased that Jim was able to visit TNT Post whilst he completed his Fellowship with the IPT. We are delighted to play a role in building a greater understanding of business amongst parliamentarians”.
