Industry Visit to British Sugar, 23 March 2017
The Industry and Parliament Trust in association with British Sugar are delighted to invite parliamentarians to join us for a visit to British Sugar’s Wissington Factory on Thursday 23 March.
The British Sugar Wissington site is one of the largest sugar beet factories in the world, producing over 400,000 tonnes of sugar for distribution in the UK and Europe. Over 2 million tonnes of sugar beet is delivered to Wissington, grown by around 900 growers within an average 28 mile radius. As an advanced and sustainable manufacturer, the British Sugar facility engages in more than just sugar production with raw materials used to produce bioethanol, electricity, topsoil, aggregate material, animal feed, fertilizer and horticultural products.
This visit will give parliamentarians a unique insight into the operations of an advanced and sustainable manufacturing facility, providing attendees an opportunity to tour the Wissington site (including sugar production site, Combined Heat and Power Station) and discuss pressing issues and concerns that effect modern agriculture, manufacturing and food production.
The trip will explore:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Renewable Energy
- Food Supply Chains
