Fellowships

Baroness Prosser at 3M
Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT) Fellowships programme are designed to provide MPs, MEPs, peers and senior parliamentary staff with a unique insight into business and industry.

Fellowships are open to all parliamentarians on a cross-party basis, and also open to senior House Staff. Fellows have the opportunity to work with one or more organisations – from multinational corporations and FTSE100 companies to social enterprises and government agencies. Most Fellowships consist of 15 days of placements over an 18 to 24 month period.

Providing Parliamentarians An Insight into Business and Industry

The ethos of all IPT programmes is educational, non-partisan and non-lobbying. Fellowships are intended to provide parliamentarians with a unique insight into the wider issues facing business and the British economy. Each programme is bespoke, tailored to an individual’s specific interests, and designed to fit in with parliamentary commitments.

The IPT has organised more than 500 Fellowships since it was founded in 1977, and the hundreds of Fellows currently in Parliament include Ministers, Select-Committee Chairs, Privy Councillors and other senior members.

What Fellows Say

Nicky Morgan MP

Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP

"It is really important for Members of Parliament, regardless of what they did before they were elected, to understand and listen to the needs of industry in all its many guises.  The IPT and the businesses I am visiting worked very hard to design the best programme for me and they listened to my requests and interests. The IPT is a vital bridge between Westminster and the industrial world outside.”

"The IPT Fellowship programme is a superb opportunity to acquire a greater understanding of industry through direct experience. It has helped me to develop a two-way dialogue that I believe can only improve the quality and effectiveness of future legislation."

“The Fellowship provided a unique opportunity to obtain a detailed understanding of the company and the sector in which it operated”

“I resented every demand on my hopelessly congested schedule but I felt enormously enriched after every visit I made. Having come from industry (on the trade union side) I thought I knew what it was about. The IPT Fellowship told me I had much to learn and gave me a hugely valuable insight into what makes our manufacturing sector tick. A great experience”
