IPT Dinner Discussion

The UK’s maritime sector is the largest in Europe and plays a vital role in supporting the UK economy. According to the British Ports Association, 95% of the UK’s international trade is transported by sea, which constitutes 75% of the UK’s total trade. With the sector employing around 113,000 people and generating an estimated £11bn for the UK economy, its significance remains unquestionable. However, as a key component of the UK’s connectivity with international economies, it is vital this is sustained going forward. This dinner discussion will:

  • Consider the importance of the UK’s maritime sector for international connectivity, trade, supply chains and job creation
  • Explore the opportunities and challenges for the seaport sector in the run up to the UK leaving the EU
  • Discuss how the Government and Industry can work together to utilise the full range of the UK’s maritime cluster; contributing to both national and regional economies and promoting its position as the world’s leading maritime centre.
