Some have suggested that Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) could offer important support for healthcare professionals across a wide range of uses. Could using A.I. effectively surpass the potential for human error in medical diagnosis? Or can A.I. improve patient experience through digital communications, schedule reminders and tailored health tips? 80% of respondents to the AI APPGs 2023 survey believed that “A.I.-driven Telehealth solutions will lead to improved patient experiences and improved outcomes [for patients].” In the same survey the majority of respondents believed that the effort to enable widespread adoption of A.I.-driven Telehealth solutions should be a concerted and collaborative effort between both government and private sector stakeholders. The USA is home to many medical companies that attempt to make full use of A.I. to support patients and healthcare professionals, alongside companies in Japan as well as Denmark. Deep learning models have been used to improve clinical decision-making, facilitating patient triage and providing therapeutic recommendations. However, as with all debates on the use of A.I. there are ethical issues to consider. Most consistently considered is the fear of biases from the man-made nature of A.I algorithms, as well as the potential for negative public perception. How can we effectively harness the power of A.I for a healthier future?
This event will:
- Consider what guardrails and ethical considerations should guide A.I. adoption in areas impacting public health, for transparency and accountability.
- Explore the potential pros and cons of using Artificial Intelligence to support healthcare professionals.
- Discuss how government, industry and academia can work together to make the most of A.I.s potential for healthcare.
