Apprenticeships and skills programmes can be a key career pathway both for those at the very beginning of their working life and employees looking to progress or retrain. In the 2022/23 academic year, there were 752,150 people participating in an apprenticeship in England and over three quarters of those who started in 2022/23 were at advanced or higher level. With research from the British Chambers of Commerce reporting that 62% of organisations are currently facing skills shortages, it has never been more important to have a pipeline in place to meet the demand. 2025 marks the 18th annual National Apprenticeship Week and is an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of apprenticeships to future skills and employment. How can we encourage apprenticeship uptake to provide the skilled workforce we need for future growth?

This event will:

  • Discuss how the apprenticeship system can be made more flexible to address the wide range of skills and training needs.
  • Examine how we improve diversity of candidates and provide the necessary support for apprentices with additional learning needs.
  • Consider how we can support SMEs who would like to take on apprentices.
  • Explore how we ensure apprenticeships keep up with ever changing technology and innovation.
