Fraud is the most common crime in the UK and the Government’s 2024 Economic Crime Survey found that one in four businesses with employees experienced fraud in the 12 months prior. This form of economic crime causes severe harm to the economy, growth, and individuals, and is often linked to wider abuse and crime. UK Finance’s Annual Fraud Report shows that in 2024 £1.17bn was stolen through fraud, however there was a 16% increase in unauthorised fraud that was prevented by industry. The National Lead Force (NLF), as part of the City of London Police, investigates some of the country’s most complex cases of fraud and promotes a partnership approach to combatting economic crime. How can government, industry, regulators and law enforcement work together to protect people and fight fraud?

This event will:

  • Discuss how we can successfully curtail the level of fraud in the UK and the economic costs incurred to individuals and business.
  • Explore methods which can provide support to SMEs and protect them from cases of fraud.
  • Consider solutions for the economic and emotional costs caused by the effects of fraud
