In 2024, the way we move is changing and with the emergence of new innovations, such as automated vehicles and Mobility as a Service (MaaS), methods of transportation are allowing for greater connectivity. The growth of electric vehicles has expanded rapidly in the last few years with nearly 23.7% of all cars sold in February being fully electric or plug in hybrid vehicles. By the end of 2016, only 0.4% of new vehicles registered were electric but by 2023, this rose to 16.5% of new car registrations. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, working patterns have changed significantly, with more firms offering hybrid working options. These changing working models allow consumers the opportunity to consider their own personal mobility. As new technology continues to emerge how can the UK consider its future mobility needs to deliver accessible and safe modes of transport for all?
The event will:
- Examine the impact of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and automated vehicles in creating an accessible transport system.
- Explore what energy infrastructure is needed to support this transition and what frameworks can be explored by the UK to facilitate this.
- Consider how future mobility propositions can offer solutions to enhance road safety that work towards creating multimodal communities.
