Understanding Parliament In Person Seminar | IPT

A half day introductory seminar hosted in Portcullis House on the parliamentary process including the differences between the House of Commons and the House of Lords. This seminar will be held on Monday 3rd October at 09.00


Delegates will gain a good understanding of the functions of Parliament including:

  • The structure of Parliament, the roles of each House and the interaction between them.
  • Legislation. The passage of a Bill through Parliament from introduction to Royal Assent. The making of secondary legislation (regulations, statutory instruments etc).
  • The role of select committees in each House of Parliament.
  • Parliamentary questions; oral and written in both Houses.

Who should attend

This course is designed for anyone who works in an environment which is related to Parliament and wishes to develop their knowledge of it.

It is well suited to public servants, academics and those from the voluntary and private sectors who are interested in gaining an understanding of the parliamentary process.
